Supporting Statement:

The WG-USA Board voted in 2018 to retire Resolutions 2011.1.R3 and 2012.1.R5 related to a Women and Peacemaking Working Group, but not the as an issue of our concern.

There remains work to do in advocating for policies related to women and peace and having a designated person to provide information and advocacy alerts for any committee, working group, or the Board on issues related to women and peace remains essential for our work especially in these areas:

  1. protection of refugees and immigrants especially for women and children who are the large majority;

  2. sex and labor trafficking as related to refugees and immigrants;

  3. access to education by displaced, refugee and immigrant children;

  4. women as equal participants in peacemaking bodies; and

  5. monitoring of the U.S. Action Plan for Women, Peace and Security.

Together with the WG-USA CIR and ECOSOC Committee Convener, policies addressed by the United Nations bodies pertaining to these and other gender and peace issues will be monitored, and information shared with the membership as appropriate.

Financial Implication for WG-USA:

At this time no cost is anticipated.
